Derby Velodrome, scheduled to be finished November 2014, is starting to take shape on Derby’s Pride Park.
It will be the UK’s fifth 250 metre indoor track and will also host a fitness gym, group exercise studios, cafe and a spinning studio.
Cycle groups have been keen to get started in the new Derby Velodrome and some have booked places on the track already (only 2 years in advance!).
The building of the velodrome hung in the balance when Labour took over the running of the council because were unsure whether it offered ‘value for money’ and were originally against the idea when the Conservative lead council put the plans forward in 2012. However, the Labour review into the project came to a sound conclusion and the plans were finally given the go ahead later that year.
