Derby’s booming restaurant scene welcomed another addition this April in the form of the South American-themed outlet Bodega Cantina on Sadler Gate.
With press invite in hand, I was excited to see what Derby’s newest restaurant had in store.
On arrival I immediately noticed the bold exterior Bodega have chosen; a world away from the stark facade the building has had for so long; with large orange signage sitting strongly amongst the trendy blue and white colour palette.
After being greeted by a representative from PR firm Lime Green Communications, who helped to put the guest list together, margarita cocktails were up next to really kick start the evening. Now, I’m not a huge cocktail fan but I decided to give the margarita a go, and I’m glad I did – I enjoyed it so much I ended up having another!
I was then treated to various South American foods such as house nachos, pork tacos, and quesadillas (both mole chicken and veggie). Usually a fussy eater, I was rather impressed with the food available for the event, and tried most things (though not surprisingly the meaty items were my favourites!).
In between the various tasters I took the opportunity to check out the venue; the South American theme runs throughout the restaurant with plenty of classy touches including historical murals, and even a neon light figure at the bar.
Overall it was a fantastic and enjoyable event with great food and drinks on offer. The restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful throughout. The venue itself is well decorated and nicely presented. I will no doubt be back at Bodega Cantina soon for a full meal in the future.
