I was lucky enough to be invited to sample delights of Turtle Bay’s new menu.

Having been to Turtle Bay many times the bright decor, chilled out music and friendly staff have always impressed me, and I was sure that this trip would be no different.

On arrival we were greeted by the waitress and shown to our table.

As we were handed the new menu’s we were asked what we would like to drink. I opted for the very Caribbean Red Stripe where my dining partner went for the obligatory can of Ting. The new items are handily highlighted with a pink heart and we immediately started deliberating which tasty new food item we were going to try first.

I opted for the Jerk Chicken Wings to start. The meal consisted of a bowl of 6 beautifully cooked wings. The meat melted in the mouth, and the jerk was quite hot but survivable (I don’t enjoy it when it’s too hot).

My dining partner decided to begin with the Beef Patty which was flavoursome, and included some cool sauces to offset the spiciness of the beef.

For my main there was a lot to choose from but I love lamb so I usually tend to go for lamb dishes should they be available. So when I saw the Jammin Lamb Burger with Cajun seasoned fries it was difficult to talk myself out of it.

The burger itself was lovely and succulent and the brioche was super soft. The Cajun fries were a nice addition to the dish and had a really strong flavour.

My dining partners main would be the Baby Back Pork Ribs with classic jerk seasoning, fries and a side of dumplings. The ribs had a warm flavour and the pork fell off the bone. I must admit I had total food envy, the ribs looked too good!

For desert we both opted for the banana and toffee cheesecake. It was beautiful, creamy, rich yet refreshing and sweet with a crunchy base.

Intellectual conversation fell silent which and was to only be broken by muttering how amazing the cheesecake was with a mouthful of it. PLEASE have it.

I must also give credit to the staff who were very attentive and helpful throughout the evening.

There were some nice additions to the menu that we wished we could’ve tried if only we had bigger stomachs, I’ve listed a few of them here…

Spiced panko coated okra fingers with mango
mole, fresh lime & coriander mayo [V]

Marinated jerk wings, glazed pork ribs,
jerk beef riblets, Jamaican beef patty,
sweet corn fritters, spiced popcorn, herb
mayo & super green salad 13.95

Spicy panko crumbed chicken fillet, topped with
pull jerk chicken, crisp gem lettuce, fresh pineapple
chow & herb mayo in a sweet bun 8.50

We’d had a great meal at Turtle Bay Derby, with some lovely food and great service. I would certainly suggest going to try the new items on the menu, they are exactly what you would expect, hot, tasty and quintessentially Turtle Bay.
