The Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) worked with the Love Sadler Gate group, to organise Celebrate Sadler Gate – an all-day, free street party.

Visitors enjoyed performances from Top Banana Stilt Band, Wild Flower Community Choir, Andrew Watkins and his Victoria Barrell Piano and walk round characters, including Jack Sparrow, Ghostbusters, The Incredible Hulk and SpongeBob SquarePants.

Historical tours and a talk by former Most Haunted star and Derby ghost expert, Richard Felix, also took place. Businesses on Sadler Gate organised their own activities which included free food and drink samples, special offers and entertainment.

Brad Worley, BID Manager for Cathedral Quarter, said:

“Saturday’s event was fantastic, and Sadler Gate was packed.

“There was music and food, and activities for everyone to enjoy. It was a brilliant day and evening, and the event really did allow us to showcase Sadler Gate’s tight knit, supportive community and shine a light on Derby’s hard-working independent businesses.”

The Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) says the Celebrate Sadler Gate event wanted to bring some fun to the street and mark everything that has been achieved on the historic city centre street in the last few years.

Brad said:

“An event like this takes a lot of effort and organising, but when we see 3,000 people turn out for it, it is so worth all the hard work. Every year, it gets bigger and bigger.”
