Mickleover Sports are pleased to be working in conjunction with ‘Drive in Films’ to bring a new and unique experience to Mickleover and the surrounding Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire areas. We will be staging drive in cinema experience to give the community a lift after lock down and to help protect and save the sports club.

Details of the first showing will be announced shortly (anticipated for late July – dependent upon restrictions being lifted). Tickets will be available from www.driveinfilms.co.uk.

How will it work?

There will be a giant 7m by 9m screen showing current and classic films at the Don Ammot Stadium, Mickleover sports ground on Station road.  We will accommodate 120 cars and around 300 people at each screening.  Audio will be beamed directly to the cars parked allowing the films to be heard using in car audio systems.

Food will be offered and will be delivered to your car using our staff who will be fully equipped in PPE and working to current governmental guidelines around social distancing. His reduces risks for all whilst giving a fabulous service to film goers.

We will have pre and post entertainment to make the whole night a great and unique experience.

What are the aims of the partnership?

Firstly it provides the community a resource in these times to safely attend a film spectacle in safety, once the current lockdown restrictions are eased slightly.  Mickleover currently does not have a drive in cinema and this will allow local people to access the cinematic experience on their doorstep.

The second aim is to support the football club.  The club are looking at novel, fun and unique ways to offset the financial impact of forced closure of the club due to the COVID 19 outbreak.

Mickleover Sports Chairman Don Amott, (formally chairman of Derby County FC) writes.

“This is a really exciting opportunity for the club to provide something for the community, whilst also helping the club’s finances at a time when we can’t play football.  I would like to invite all people from around the area to attend the cinema nights and enjoy themselves.  Once the football starts again we would hope that those that have had a good time at the club will come back and support the side.

We are working tirelessly to maintain the club and facilities that supports so much youth and senior sporting activities. ”

Director of Drive in Films Ian Marriott says.

“Being able to work to support grass roots football and provide valuable entertainment to the community is important to us. We are based  based out of Silverstone in Northamptonshire and we know how hard it is for all sports and sports clubs have been hit by the impact of COVID19  virus and subsequent closure of their vital facilities.  Re-purposing this fantastic sports ground for a short while over the summer makes good use of the excellent facilities available. It makes sense for all and will support the young children who play sports, their families and the wider club – so once restrictions are lifted there is still a club to play at.  We hope that the community around Mickleover will book ticket, have a great night out and come and support the local football club and Drive In Films in this endeavour.
