Get ready, Derby – dinosaurs are back!
Thousands are expected to descend on the city centre this Saturday, July 12, for A Jurassic Day Out in Cathedral Quarter – a free, family-friendly extravaganza where prehistoric giants will roam the streets.
Star of the show is Zeus the T-Rex, one of Europe’s largest walking dinosaurs. He’ll be joined by other ancient favourites including a Stegosaurus, Parasaurolophus and Brontosaurus, as Derby’s Market Place transforms into a prehistoric playground.
Organised by the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID), the event promises a full day of roaring fun.
“We love organising these free events because we know how much families enjoy them,” said Brad Worley, BID Manager for Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter. “It’s going to be a dino-mite day – definitely one for the diary!”
Last year’s event drew more than 4,000 visitors, and this year’s outing looks set to break records again.
“This event is too good to miss,” added Deputy BID Manager Gemma Pindard. “With so much to see and do, it’s going to be another brilliant free day out in the Cathedral Quarter.”
What to expect:
Roaming Dinosaurs – Watch out for smaller dinos wandering the streets, ready for selfies and surprise encounters.
Meet the Hatchlings – Head to the Dino Hatchery and meet baby dinosaurs in their early stages of life.
Dino Dig – Budding palaeontologists can grab a brush and uncover giant fossils buried in sand.
Crafts & Face Painting – Create your own dinosaur souvenir with Scraggy Moo or get transformed into a fearsome dino by local face painters.
Whether you’re a dino expert or just love a bit of Jurassic joy, this is an event that promises excitement for all ages.
