Sadler Gate is getting ready to party once again as the much-loved Celebrate Sadler Gate event returns to Derby for its fourth year on Saturday 28 June.
The all-day celebration, organised by the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) in partnership with the Love Sadler Gate group, promises a lively mix of music, food, entertainment, and community spirit — and best of all, it’s completely free.
Running from 11am to 4pm, the historic street will come alive with street performers, live music, face painting, pop-up food stalls, and special in-store offers. Among the headline acts will be King Brasstards, bringing a blast of New Orleans energy with their bold brass band sound.
Derby’s very own ghost expert Richard Felix, known for his appearances on Most Haunted, will be offering walking tours and historical talks about Sadler Gate’s rich past. Local choirs will provide the soundtrack to the day, and younger visitors can look forward to face painting and other family-friendly activities.
Many of Sadler Gate’s independent businesses will also be getting involved, offering flash sales, live DJ sets, and unique experiences throughout the day. As evening draws in, the street’s vibrant nightlife will take over, keeping the party going with music and entertainment into the night.
Elsewhere in the city on the same day, St Peters Cross will be hosting its own festivities to kick off Euro 2025 with walkaround performers, crafting sessions, and football-themed activities — making this a day full of free fun across the city centre.
Brad Worley, BID Manager for Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter, said:
“We’re really excited to bring Celebrate Sadler Gate back for another year. It’s a brilliant, free day out and a great chance to celebrate our fantastic local businesses and the vibrant community we have here in Derby. Last year’s event was a huge success, and we’re hoping this one will be even bigger and better.”
Celebrate Sadler Gate is just one of three summer events being planned by the Cathedral Quarter BID. Keep an eye out for ‘A Jurassic Day Out in Cathedral Quarter’ on Saturday 12 July, featuring dinosaurs roaming the city centre, and the return of the Cathedral Quarter Street Circus on Saturday 9 August — both free, family-friendly days out.
Mark your calendars — Derby’s summer is shaping up to be one to remember.
