On Saturday, August 9, Cathedral Green will burst into life as the city hosts its annual Street Circus, a free event packed with spectacular performances and family fun.
From 11am onwards, visitors can enjoy a vibrant mix of live outdoor street theatre, bubble shows, and hands-on crafting activities. The event, organised by the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID), promises to transport audiences into a world of colour, comedy, and wonder.
The talented performers from Yellow Bus Events – veterans of Covent Garden, Glastonbury, and the Edinburgh Festival – will entertain crowds with a thrilling line-up of acrobatic stunts, mesmerising displays, and laugh-out-loud comedy characters.
Among the highlights is Elton Wrong, a fabulously flamboyant Elton John tribute act who will light up the streets with outrageous costumes, singalong classics, and plenty of sparkle. Expect high-energy antics, sass, and showmanship as he parades through the city with his portable piano and infectious personality.
Families can also join in the fun with free circus skills workshops, giving children and adults alike the chance to try out juggling, balancing, and other crowd-pleasing tricks.
With over 25 years of experience delivering street theatre at festivals across the UK, Yellow Bus Events is set to deliver a show Derby won’t forget.
Gemma Pindard, Deputy BID Manager for St Peters Quarter and Cathedral Quarter BIDs, said:
“This event is not to be missed! Last year’s Cathedral Quarter Carnival was a huge hit, and we know families loved the entertainment. We’re thrilled to bring Yellow Bus Events to Derby this year – their performers are absolutely fantastic and will put on an incredible show for everyone to enjoy. Cathedral Green is the perfect stage for this celebration of outdoor theatre.”
