Zeus the T-Rex, one of Europe’s largest dinosaurs, will return to the Cathedral Quarter on Saturday, July 18, alongside a fearsome line-up of prehistoric favourites including a Triceratops, Pachycephalosaurus and Brachiosaurus.
The dinosaurs will be the star attraction at A Jurassic Day Out in Cathedral Quarter, a free family fun day organised by the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District.
Derby’s Market Place will be transformed into a prehistoric playground as the mighty creatures roam the city once again.
Last year, more than 4,000 people came along to meet Zeus and his dinosaur friends, and organisers are hoping for another roaring success this summer.
Gemma Pindard, Deputy Manager for both Cathedral Quarter BID and St Peters Quarter BID, said the event is always hugely popular with families.
She said: “We get the best turnout to this event and we all work extremely hard to bring these free events to Derby.
“The Cathedral Quarter team can’t wait to let our Jurassic friends loose in Derby again.
“We encourage families to put the date in their diaries and come to Derby for an amazing day. If last year’s event is anything to go by, it’ll be another terrific free day out in the Cathedral Quarter, and we look forward to seeing everyone there.”
Throughout the day, smaller dinosaurs will also be roaming the streets of the Cathedral Quarter, giving families plenty of chances for meet and greets, photos and selfies with a range of different species.
Youngsters will also be encouraged to visit the hatchery at St Peters Cross, where they can meet baby dinosaurs in their earliest stages of life and learn more about the evolution of these legendary creatures.
There will also be a Dino Dig for young explorers and budding palaeontologists. Hidden beneath the sand will be mighty dinosaur fossils, ready to be uncovered by curious children with a brush and a sense of adventure.
Families can also enjoy Jurassic crafting with Scraggy Moo, creating dinosaur-themed souvenirs to take home, while talented face painters will be on hand to transform little visitors into the fiercest dinosaurs in Derby.
With giant dinosaurs, baby dinos, fossil digging, crafts and face painting, A Jurassic Day Out promises to be a roar-some free day out for families in Derby city centre.
