The Apple Tree Teahouse, in Ockbrook, is a hidden gem. Situated at the rear of the gift shop this cosy, welcoming teahouse offers breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and delicious, irresistible cakes.
The teahouse boasts a vast collection of coffee and tea as well as Bellinis or Prosecco, and a hand selection of wines.
For lunch we couldn’t decide out of the mozzarella and tomato open sandwich or the Parma ham and crushed avocado – so we opted for both! Served on a thick slice of bread with generous amounts of toppings and a side of sweet potatoes fries, both sandwiches were tremendous.
The sweet potato fries took a little while to cook but the staff were forthcoming, apologetic and offered us a complimentary drink so we didn’t mind continuing our catch up.
Freshly baked on-site is an array of scrumptious cakes from traditional Victoria sponge to salted caramel cupcakes and gluten free brownies.
I’m a sucker for all things sweet so I had been eyeing up the cakes from the second we sat down. After much deliberation I opted for the Carrot cake – which is an all time favourite of mine both to bake and to eat! The dense cake, included large chunks of sultanas and pecans and the creamy frosting really was the icing on the cake – literally!
My friend decided upon coffee and walnut cake, which I was only allowed a small taste of – not that I blame her – the icing was strong and thick and the cake was moist and tasty.
The gift shop has some really beautiful presents for weddings, birthdays and children. As well as a mini pantry with an range of spirit cocktail kits and tempting Cartwright chutneys and biscuits.
The décor was quirky and cosy making you feel very at home.
Although it was Monday lunchtime it was full of families and friends enjoying the quintessential teahouse.
Nestled in the heart of Ockbrook it’s the perfect place for a good catch up or a relaxing afternoon.
