When you think about the intu Derby you may think of big-name stores and restaurants. However, there are some independent businesses that continue to thrive, and one such business is the authentic Italian café Grand Café Caruso.

This award-winning establishment offers a wide range of coffees including cappuccinos and lattes, as well as teas, hot chocolates, shakes and cold drinks. Also available is an extensive range of hot and cold food, and having sampled Caruso’s food offerings on a previous outing we thought we’d pay them another visit.

On this occasion I opted for the Chicken Bacon & Lettuce Baguette, which was freshly prepared – as is all the food available at Caruso. The bacon was nice and crispy, the chicken was tasty, and overall my baguette was delicious. A packet of crisps was also included as part of a meal deal with all sandwiches and baguettes.

My dining partner opted for a jacket potato that was tailored for vegan requirements – consisting of baked beans, mushrooms, tomato, cucumber, lettuce and carrot. Full marks to Caruso for accommodating our dietary requirements.

Overall, we were very pleased with our dishes, which were superb. Added with the great service we left the Grand Café Caruso as very happy.
