Balti International review.
Good food and excellent service. Find out why our blogger Adam will be returning again.
For years now the UK has had a love affair with Indian food, something not hard to miss thanks to the number of Indian restaurants and takeaways now situated on our streets. Now for me there is always something special about dining in an Indian restaurant, and in Derby one such establishment is the Balti International on Uttoxeter New Road.
Having been to the Balti a few times and leaving very satisfied on each occasion my expectations were again high. This time there would be a party of 6, but for the purpose of this review I will be focusing mainly on my own dishes.
After ordering soft drinks and consuming the compulsory poppadoms* it was on to starter. I decided to go for the Lamb Tikka – consisting of 4 pieces of spicy lamb plus a decent portion of salad. The lamb was nicely spicy, and for a starter the amount served was plenty.
Time for the mains, and this meant my favourite – ½ Tandoori Chicken, along with plain nan bread and shared pilau rice. As per previous occasions the chicken had been very tasty and not too spicy.
The rice was plentiful too, as was the nan bread even though it was a bit dry.
Service-wise I can’t fault the staff one bit, they were very friendly and clearly took pride in what they do.
Overall the food was good, the service was excellent, this diner was happy so will be returning again.
One final note – the restaurant allows you to bring your own alcohol (not soft drinks, these you have to order inside), so if you fancy a beer with your curry don’t forget (and save a bit of money on the bill).
*not really compulsory, but they should be!

Grand Café Caruso review
When you think about the intu Derby you may think of big-name stores and restaurants. However, there are some independent businesses that continue to thrive, and one such business is the authentic Italian café Grand Café Caruso.
