The Silk Mill stands on the site of the world’s first factory and is the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage Site.


The Silk Mill is one of the world’s oldest factories.

Built by George Sorocold in 1702 the foundations and parts of the tower from the 1717 mill are still visible.

It is currently undergoing a major million pound refurbishment to make better use of the museum.
