Celebrate Sadler Gate will take place on Saturday, June 27, bringing live entertainment, family activities, street performers and special offers to the Cathedral Quarter.
The event, which attracted hundreds of visitors last year, is being organised by Derby Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District BID in partnership with the Love Sadler Gate group, which represents businesses on the street.
Visitors can enjoy a packed programme throughout the day, including a live performance from high-energy five-piece roaming brass band King Brasstards, who will be entertaining crowds from 11.30am.
There will also be singing princesses outside The Old Bell, face painting for younger visitors, choirs, movie characters, flash sales in local shops and a new UV children’s disco at Ryders in The Blacksmiths Yard.
Visitors will also be able to test their reactions on a Batak machine, with prizes up for grabs as part of some free, friendly competition.
Former Most Haunted star and Derby ghost expert Richard Felix will also be taking part, offering historical tours and talks exploring the background and stories of Sadler Gate.
The BID says the event is a chance to celebrate everything that has been achieved on the street in recent years, while shining a light on its independent businesses and close-knit community.
Last year’s event included live DJ sets, acoustic music, children’s entertainment and evening activities, as Sadler Gate moved from its daytime shopping atmosphere into its lively night-time scene.
Brad Worley, BID Manager for Cathedral Quarter and St Peters Quarter, said:
“Celebrate Sadler Gate is one of our favourites of the year.
“We are always excited about this free event, and we look forward to seeing everyone there.
“Last year, hundreds of people came along, and it was a brilliant day and evening.”
Brad said the event gives the BID the opportunity to showcase the street’s businesses and bring more people into the area.
He added:
“After the success of the events we have held over the last few years, both businesses and visitors were keen for us to help organise another one.
“We are shouting about it now because we want it to be even bigger and better.”
Celebrate Sadler Gate is one of three summer events announced by the Cathedral Quarter BID.
On Saturday, July 18, dinosaurs will take over the city centre for A Jurassic Day Out in Cathedral Quarter, a free family fun day.
Then, on Saturday, August 15, families can enjoy the sight of 200 classic scooters on display inside Derby Market Hall.
